Job Description / Role

As a Research Sciences Intern, you will work with researchers and engineers on cutting‑edge problems in machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, and optimization. You will contribute to real‑world projects, build scalable prototypes, and help advance state‑of‑the‑art research that may influence future Microsoft products and services.​

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and improve advanced algorithms and ML models on large‑scale datasets.

• Design experiments, run evaluations, and refine models based on data and metrics.

• Build and iterate on prototypes of scalable AI systems, working toward production‑ready solutions with engineering and product teams.

• Work closely with mentors, researchers, and other interns, and participate in the research community through discussions, presentations, or demos.​

Eligibility Criteria

Required / Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree (completed or in progress) in a relevant field
  OR Master’s Degree in a relevant field
  OR equivalent experience.​

Relevant fields typically include Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical disciplines.​

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in a related field, or strong equivalent research experience.

• Experience contributing to research publications (as lead or key author) in AI, ML, data science, optimization, or related areas.

• Participation in top conferences or workshops in the relevant research domain is a plus.​

Skills & Knowledge

• Strong understanding of at least one area:

  • Natural Language Understanding

  • Computer Vision

  • Machine Learning / Deep Learning

  • Algorithmic Foundations / Optimization

  • Data Mining / Machine Intelligence​

• Experience with data processing, experimentation, and modeling using tools like Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar frameworks.​
